Below is a 7 day / 6 night sample itinerary to give you a general idea of our Highland Adventure trip starting from Reykjavik:

Day 1 - Thjorsa Valley & Hekla

Drive from Reykjavik to the Thjorsa Valley visiting some beautiful waterfalls on the way including Haifoss, Iceland's second highest waterfall. Visit a reconstructed medieval farm and the ruins of a Viking settlement manor. Enjoy views of the famous Hekla volcano.
Overnight in a hotel in the highlands for 2 nights.

Day 2 - Landmannalaugur, Eldgja & Ofaerufoss

Drive to the colourful rhyolite mountains of Landmannalaugar on the scenic Fjallabak route. You can bathe in the warm river and choose from hiking trails of various durations and difficulty levels. Visit Eldgja, the largest volcanic canyon in the world and walk up the gorge to the beautiful multi-tiered waterfall Ofaerufoss.

Day 3 - Sprengisandur

Today you head North on the barren Sprengisandur road that lies between two of Iceland’s most magnificent glaciers, Hofsjokull and Vatnajokull.
Overnight in a mountain hut in Sprengisandur.

Day 4 - The wonders of Lake Myvatn

Head further north to the Lake Myvatn area and enjoy an afternoon exploring its many wonders including Dimmuborgir, Namaskard and Krafla.
Overnight for two nights in the Lake Myvatn area.

Day 5 - Askja & Viti

A full day trip to the Eastern highlands to visit the massive Askja caldera. Enroute you will pass Herdubreidalindir, Hrossaborgir cliffs and the Viti crater. 

Day 6 - Kjolur, Hveravellir & Hvitarvatn

Drive to the ancient Kjolur route between the glaciers Langjokull and Hofsjokull. Cross rivers, enjoy the stunning scenery and stop to bathe in the natural hot spring of Hveravellir. Visit lake Hvitarvatn for great views.
Overnight in the region.

Day 7 - West Iceland & Departure

Drive back to Reykjavik through the Golden Circle area where you could stop to visit some of the famous attractions of Iceland if you would like.

The locations specified above are indicative. Since the exact itinerary is customised for your arrival and departure times, activities and tours you choose, and the pace of your trip; these might change.
We can of course also accommodate any preferences you have.

Here are some of the ways in which we can customise this trip:
- Add extra days to slow down the pace or enrich your itinerary with more time for activities or de-tours; there is enough to do for 2 weeks
- Cut a day or two from the itinerary to allow for reduced time or budget
- Create a themed itinerary with an emphasis on your favourite activity or interest f.e. adventure, geology, hiking, geothermal pools, birds & wildlife, cuisine, history & culture etc.
- If you want to explore more sights off the beaten path then we have a ton of great ideas!

For both self-drive and private tours, a 4x4 vehicle is required for this holiday.

There is a limited range of accommodation available for this itinerary, so early bookings are strongly advised.

Our detailed itinerary is completely tailored to your specific interests. It will include comprehensive information on the must-see attractions and offbeat sights you will visit, a day-wise outline and directions on Google maps.

We can also include tours and activities of your choice, self-guided walks and hikes, and restaurant recommendations. Typically this requires adding extra time to the trip.

And of course, we are always available for questions or assistance during your trip.

Additional information for your Iceland trip will be sent to you along with the detailed itinerary. This will include details about driving in Iceland, weather and clothing, currencies and payments, electricity system, food and water, safety, contact info, and other useful tips.

The minimum driver age for is 20 years for smaller cars and 25 years for jeeps. Drivers must bring an international driving licence or a local driving licence written in a Roman script.
